CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

TINY & BEGINNERS BALLET

We cater for students as young as 3 years, the classes are fun, structured and cover the basics of classical ballet including mime, free movement and dance with the use of props. Students begin with the basics of classical ballet learning steps through imagery and fantasy. Also learning direction and coordinated movement steps like skips and marches as well as learning about the different beats and rhythms of music. Students also learn self-discipline, an ability to focus on goals, and a capacity to work cooperatively with other students.

Our classes have imagination as their themes, to help engage the children and to stimulate their creativity and expression. Each class contains a familiar warm up, themed development portion and cool down. This is a great way to introduce your child to classical ballet.

Tiny Ballet classes are for children 3 turning 4 and starting Kindy at school two years later. Beginners Ballet students are for students 4 turning 5 and starting Kindy at school the following year.

DISCO KIDS JAZZ

Dancers will learn the basic steps of jazz dance with turns, kicks, and leap steps along with popular simple rhythm techniques. We use fun, energetic, popular music, which is age appropriate. Props are used developing coordination, musicality and rhythm skills, which also lets your child explore their creativity.

Disco Kids Jazz is for preschool age children, 3 to 5 years old. You can attend it as a stand alone class, or select the corresponding Tiny Ballet or Beginners Ballet and attend the two classes back-to-back.

DANCE & MOVEMENT

A creatively designed class for children and their carers promoting growth, activity and shared experience. This class is run by Kate Barber on a Saturday from 8.45 am to 9.15 am. This class does not participate in our End of Year Performance.

This class will stimulate and activate the developmental needs of children from 2 to 3 years of age. The program emphasises the importance of participation with a caring adult, creating a platform for shared experiences and meaningful connections. In a secure and nurturing environment, young dancers not only learn to move and strengthen their bodies but also expand their vocabularies, all while having fun with a loving grown-up.

The class introduces  young minds and bodies to the wonder of dance in a stress free, creative environment. Activities include dancing, singing, music appreciation, story telling, skill development, creative dance exploration, parachute rides and free dancing. These activities are designed to stimulate cognitive and physical development, sociability and bonding.

The class starts with a warmup, there are weekly and term themes, which determine the dramatic elements of the class, which lead the children on a challenging and joyous adventure, at the same time developing their ballet technique, music appreciation, creative dance skills and gross motor development. A familiar cool down exercise brings the class to a close. This often includes dress-ups, free dancing or narrative inspired dance followed by a relaxation activity

This class is suitable for both boys and girls and they can wear any comfortable clothing. Ballet shoes must be worn. The participating Adult is best to wear clothes that are easy to move and dance in. Bare feet or socks – outside shoes are not worn in the dance studio.

We request that you disconnect from technology whilst in class; this means phones on silent, no talking on the phone and no taking photos or video.
